Copied covers

In this post I will present you with some album covers stealing ideas or parodying album covers. Under the motto: better a good steal than a bad idea.

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956)

The debut album of Elvis Presley.

The Clash - London Calling (1979)

The album cover copied the the text in two colours and dispayed Clash bassist Paul Simonon smashing his Fender Precision Bass.

Big Audio Dynamite - F Punk (1995)

Big Audio Dynamite was the band by Mick Jones of the Clash and they reused the idea of the Elvis Presley cover.

Bjork - Debut (1993)

Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time (1999)

Britney clearly stole the idea posing in exactly the same was as Björk on her debut.

Beatles - Meet The Beatles (1964)

Second American album release of the Beatles.

Residents - Meet The Residents (1974)

Intended as a parody on the Beatles album cover

José Feliciano - Compartments (1973)

Puerto Rican artist well known for his christmas song "Feliz Navidad" released this album in 1973. The photo was taken of a building in New York.

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (1975)

They used the same idea with a photo from of The two five-storey buildings are located at 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place in New York City.

Missing persons - Spring session M (1982)

The debut studio album by American rock band Missing Persons.

Lady Gaga - The Sherrytree Sessions EP (2009)

Clearly steal the idea and also an album title with session in it.

Scott Baio -  Scott Baio (1982)

Scott's album came out earlier but it is not clear which album cover was designed earlier. This one or Michael Jackson's album cover. The chicken or the egg.

Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)

The same pose and idential font type used for the text.

Circle The Cat - Circle The Cat (2000)

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam (2006)

Pearl Jam steal the avocado idea of the unknown band Circle The Cat.

Queen - Hot Space (1982)

Not their best album besides the fact it includes the better duet with David Bowie "Under Pressure".

Blur - The best of  (2000)

They also used the idea of a popart design with the 4 band members in each corner.

Slave - Slave (1977)

Van Halen - 5150 (1986)

The same idea of using the mythological Atlas carrying the world but the desing is slighly better than the one of Slave.

Commodores - Movin'on (1975)

Van Halen - A Different Kind Of Thruth (2012)

No doubt of the fact they steal the idea of the Commodores album cover completely.

Tyla Gang - Yachtless (1977)

An unkown rock band released this album in 1977 and used the SS Normandie poster for their album cover.

Van Halen - Live Tokyo Dome (2015)

It looks like Van Halen has a reputation of stealing ideas right now for this live album.

The SS Normandie was a French ocean liner that crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Le Havre (France) to Southampton (UK) to New York (USA). This promo poster was an inspiration for the above album covers.

The Doors - The Doors (1967)

Danzig - Danzig II Lucifuge (1990)

Danzig steal the idea with the frontman of the band on the left and the other band members on the right in smaller size just like the Doors album cover.

Kiss - Creatures of The Night (1982)

Lordi - Beast loose In Paradise (2008)

A parody on the Kiss album cover by the Finnish heavy metal band that joined the Eurovision contest in 2006.

.

Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)

The legendary album cover of this album by the Beatles was made by Popart artist Sir Peter Blake. The idea was used by many other people in some way.

Mothers of Invention - We're Only In It For The Money (1968)

This album was a parody on the psychedelic sounds of the 60's by Frank Zappa's band and the Sgt. Pepper album cover was the perfect victim for being used.

Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967)

Also the stones moved towards psychedelica and came up with an album cover in the same style of the Beatles in the same year.

Macabre - Sinister Slaughter (1993)

This album by an extreme metal band from Chicago was another parody on the legendary Beatles album displaying serial killers instead.
