F-111

In 1964 popart painter  James Rosenquist collected photograps and info on the F-111 Bomber in development by the US army. He came up with the idea after seeing an abandoned B-36 plane at Six Flags amusement park in Texas. Also influenced by the media attention of the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam war it would become his most famous work.

The painting measures 10 feet (3,05 meters) high by 86 feet (26 meters) long.

At present location: MOMA Manhattan

In 1965 the painting was finished and exposed at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York covering 4 walls.
